Privacy Policy for TIL — Today I Learned

This Privacy Policy describes how Bekbolat Samarkan collects, uses, and protects information when you use the TIL — Today I Learned mobile application ("the App").

1. Information We Collect

The App does not require account registration and does not collect any personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, or phone number).

To help us understand how the App is used and improve it, the App collects limited, anonymous usage data, including:

• A randomly generated device identifier (not linked to your name or any personal account)
• App usage events: when the app is opened, which videos are viewed, which words are tapped or saved, and content reports you submit

This anonymous usage data is stored on our backend infrastructure (Supabase) and is used solely for understanding app engagement and improving the App. It cannot be used to identify you personally.

Your saved words, dictionary, and language preference are stored locally on your device.

2. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

• Microsoft Azure Translator — when you tap a word to see its translation, the word is sent (via our own server-side function) to Microsoft Azure Translator for translation. See Microsoft's Privacy Statement at https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement
• Supabase — used to store anonymous usage analytics as described in Section 1. See Supabase's Privacy Policy at https://supabase.com/privacy
• Cloudflare R2 — used to host and deliver the video content shown in the App. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/

We do not sell your data to third parties.

3. Data Retention

Anonymous usage data is retained for as long as necessary to analyze app performance and improve the App. You may request deletion of any data associated with your device by contacting us at the email below.

4. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

5. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.

Data Deletion Request

This page explains how to request deletion of data associated with your use of the TIL — Today I Learned app, developed by Bekbolat Samarkan.

How to request data deletion

1. Send an email to bastausup@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request".
2. In your email, briefly describe when you used the app (approximate date) and, if possible, the device you used it on. This helps us locate the correct anonymous data record, since the app does not use accounts or personal identifiers.
3. We will confirm your request and delete the associated data within 30 days.

What data will be deleted

The following anonymous usage data associated with your device will be deleted upon request:

• Your randomly generated device identifier
• App usage events (app opens, videos viewed, words tapped or saved, content reports submitted) linked to that identifier

What data is retained

Words and phrases you saved to your personal dictionary, along with your language preference, are stored locally on your own device and are not retained by us — deleting the app from your device removes this data immediately. We do not retain any personally identifiable information, as the app does not collect names, email addresses, or account credentials.

Retention period

Anonymous usage data is otherwise retained for as long as necessary to analyze app performance, unless deletion is requested earlier as described above.
